Where Faith Meets The Mind
SPEAKER_00Hey hey, it's your favorite shifter story coach, Coach Tara, and you're listening to the Her Authentic Voice podcast. This is where faith meets real life, where shame gets silenced, and where your story becomes your strategy. Today's episode is for the woman who's been praying for breakthrough, but still feels stuck in cycles of overthinking or even self-doubt. Maybe you have emotional heaviness, but you've done all the devotionals. You've fasted, you've worshiped, you've prayed, you're going to the services, yet something in your mind still feels unsettled. So let's talk about it. Today we're going to talk about how God uses your mind to heal you. Amen. So Hebrews chapter 5, verse 14 talks about strong meat belonging to those who are of full age and those who, by reason of use, have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. That verse tells us something powerful. That maturity in God is not just spiritual, it's mental. To grow strong in faith, you must exercise your senses, meaning you must train your perception, you must train your discernment and your awareness. Because God doesn't just want your worship, He wants your mind. And I'll prove it. Because when the Bible says, be transformed by the renewing of your mind, and that's in Romans 12, 2, that word renew means to make new again. It means to rewire, to realign, restore function. God literally heals you through transformation that begins in how you think. I am a recipient of said transformation. So I know what I'm talking about. And I'm going to keep sharing because I want to unpack this with some behavior truth for you. Your brain and your mind are not the same thing. Your brain handles the body, your physical reactions, your nervous systems, your habits, but your mind is where interpretation happens. Your beliefs, emotions, identity, and meaning. So your brain stores the memory, but your mind assigns the story. Amen. So when trauma, disappointment, or pain happens, your brain records the facts, but your mind is what builds the narrative. See, this is what's really important because that narrative, whether it's I'm not enough, I'm not worthy, people always hurt me, God must be punishing me or God must be mad at me. Whatever narrative you have concocted from your pain, from your disappointment, that becomes the script that your life keeps replaying. You ruminate over it. Words create whirls. You keep ruminating over that, you keep replaying that and you're stuck in this cycle. But see, healing begins when you allow God to edit the narrative. Your mind is still rehearsing. You have to allow God. And then let me tell you about your subconscious. Because it's a lot that's going on here. Your subconscious is layered, it holds the details that your conscious mind overlooks. The little cues, the beliefs, and the associations that shape how you see the world. That's why scripture says that those of full age have exercised their senses. You can't discern what you're unwilling to examine. You have to look so that you can become aware. Praying in the spirit, meditating on the word, journaling, or even sitting quietly with your thoughts. All of these awaken your mind to God's voice in places you've been numb. But here's the truth the Holy Spirit doesn't only speak to your spirit, He renews your mind so your spirit can lead instead of your emotions. See, this is where a bulk of my life was a problem for me because emotions were in the driving seat for me. I led with emotions, and the Holy Spirit had to help me by renewing my mind, and I allowed him to do so because this is where healing takes place. I had those beliefs of I'm not enough, I'm not worthy, bad things keep happening, and I had to renew my mind to know I am enough, I am worthy. That's how God heals you. He doesn't erase the memories, but what he does is reframe them. He reframes those memories. He did it for me, and he's still doing it. And that's what he'll do for you. He's not going to delete your past, but he will deliver you from his control. And that process is it's a mental healing with God. When God begins to heal you, he often starts with awareness. You'll notice things you used to ignore, like a tone in your voice or a reaction that feels familiar. It's like, what is this? Why am I doing this? And then there's a pattern that you'll see a pattern of your behavior that you can't unsee anymore because he's bringing it to your attention. He's saying, look, pay attention to this. This needs to change. And that awareness is not him punishing you, but God is so good because he convicts us, and that is good for us. It prepares us. It allows us to go to these places that he's calling us. It allows us to walk effectively in our assignment. He's letting us know, Dorothy, you've been on autopilot, but I need you to come off of that. I need you to get into agreement with me. And it's nothing wrong with your emotions. I do not like people vilifying emotions. You have people say you're emotional. There's nothing wrong with being emotional. It's an emotion. Everyone's emotional. Like that is so weird when people say that. But you don't want to be controlled by your emotions. That's the difference. Emotions are information. Emotion is that's data, data. If you potato, patata, however you want to say it, but that's what it is. It's information. And when you have triggers, those are indicators. So I do not judge negatively these things, even though they're used in a negative connotation a lot, but they're not negative. When you're triggered, that's an indicator to let you know something's going on. And you must know that all your thoughts are not truth. When I was in school getting my certification for life coaching and solution-focused coaching and emotional intelligence, we had to do an assignment and we had to think about what we were thinking. What we realized is all of our thoughts were not the truth. Our thoughts are invitations for discernment. They invite us to go deeper and to ask questions of it. What is this? Behavior science causes neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to change and build new pathways. But faith calls it renewing your mind. When you automatically stop, or I should say, when you stop automatically reacting to old thoughts, you're gonna start building those new pathways. And the Holy Spirit partners with that. So you guys will work in tandem. And healing happens when you stop letting the pain be in the driver's seat. So that's why I was saying you're not letting the pain lead, you're not letting your emotions lead, you're letting the Holy Spirit lead and navigate, but you're not judging your emotions and you're not judging your triggers. Remember, they're information and indicators. I want you to get that. And I also want you to see how our mind and our spirit is aligned. Because in the natural, your brain protects your body, but in the spiritual, your mind protects your destiny, your mind protects your calling, your mind protects your purpose. Because if the enemy can't destroy you, guess what he's gonna do? Distract you. Amen. And he will distract you even in your mind. He will distract you with false narratives, he will distract you with distorted thoughts, with ruminating. He will, and that distraction will cause a delay in your life. That's why scripture says in 2 Corinthians, it's 2 Corinthians 10 talks about taking every thought captive and making it obedient to Christ. Because unguarded thoughts, when we don't guard our gates and we have them thoughts just open like that, they're open doors. And open doors leads to confusion, brain fog, fatigue, it leads to compromise, it leads to frustration and that being unsettled, like I said in the beginning. When you bring those thoughts under the obedience to Christ, you are aligning your mind and your spirit for healing. Amen. You're saying to the Lord, Lord, help me see what you see. I know this thought doesn't match what you say, Lord. This is not the truth of who I am. Help me. And when you pray like that, it causes spiritual renewal, it causes mental restoration. It's like that repetition. You're participating in your healing because it's not a one-time thing. It's not a one-time prayer. This is a lifestyle. This is a lifestyle. Come on, you are consciously in agreement with God. You are consciously and intentionally every day choosing the Lord, choosing to believe what the Bible says. And you're not going to heal if you don't face it, whatever it is for you. And you're not going to be able to renew your mind if you don't release it. It doesn't work that way. So I want to share a few ways that I help my clients to partner with God in the process, in their process, you know, because the first thing you must do is observe because you have to be aware. But the key is to observe without judgment. That's what I want. I want you to notice what comes up when you're triggered or anxious. Notice it. Don't judge whether it's right or wrong. Just notice it and then name it. What is it? Ask what am I telling myself right now? What am I feeling right now? What is this? And be honest with yourself. And then after that, you're gonna have to replace it with truth. You're gonna go into your word and in the Bible app on your phone, you can even type in search terms now. So type in a search term or whatever you're telling yourself. What does the Bible say? Find the opposite and then speak that scripture over yourself. Replace that thought, that negative belief, replace it with truth, God's revealed truth. And then you're gonna have to practice this. You're gonna have to keep doing this and practice these new behaviors, these new thought patterns, because that consistency is what rewires both your brain and your habits. Amen. You have to be consistent. So you're gonna observe without judging, just gonna notice. You're gonna name the belief, you're gonna ask questions, you're gonna replace it with truth, and you're gonna practice new behaviors. Because behavior science does prove it works in tandem with scripture, it is not against it. Repetition is what builds transformation, both in the natural and in the spiritual. So every time you choose peace instead of panicking, and you choose to tell the truth instead of lies, or even believe the truth instead of lies, when you yield to trusting God instead of leaning into fear, every time you choose these things, you are healing your mind every time. And God's part in that is revelation, but your part is the renewal part because he'll reveal the root, he'll expose the pattern to you, but your part is to renew the response. Remember, we talked about that. You're gonna have to practice new responses. Your part is to exercise discernment. He's gonna give you the grace to do it, but guess what? You have to do you must choose to grow. Amen. You must choose to grow, you must choose to go through and grow through. That's how you work with him, that's how you work in partnership and tandem with the Lord. And as you do these things, your spiritual senses will start to strengthen, they'll get stronger, and you'll begin to discern both good and evil. And I am not talking about just good and evil in the world. Uh-uh. That's not what I'm talking about. You'll you'll know that too. But I'm talking about your own internal dialogue. I'm talking about when you recognize when fear is speaking louder than your faith, when you sense when the enemy is trying to disguise distraction as an opportunity. He's trying to show you this good thing as a God thing and it's not. You know, when peace is confirming your next step because you've learned this is God. You've learned this is my flesh. You've learned, oh no, that's the enemy. Oh, this is other people, the things they've said. You learn because you've practiced, you've exercised it. That's maturity and healing. Amen. So I just want to leave you with a reflection prompt. I want you to take a few moments and journal this week. And I really want you to think about these things I spoke about. Listen again if you need to, but ask yourself, what thought or belief keeps replaying that doesn't align with God's truth? Ask yourself, how has God been trying to renew my mind through awareness or conviction? Because conviction is his grace. It's a good thing. So how is he trying to renew through that? This is something I want you, you can journal them throughout the week, but this right here, I want you to think about right now. What step can you take right now, today, to align your thoughts with God's word? Because you've aligned your thoughts with your wounds for too long. So what step can you take today to align your thoughts with his word and not your wounds? Write it down. Pray about it. And I don't want you to judge any of it. I want you to remember that your healing doesn't start when everything starts to feel better. It doesn't work that way. It starts when you decide that it's gonna start. When you decide that you're gonna think different, then you decide you're gonna move different. Amen. Amen. And I I hope this episode blessed you. And I pray that you share it with someone who needs it, that you leave a review, that you rate it for me, and you subscribe. I'm asking for you to support the show.
